Cheryl Pounder was born in Montreal, Quebec into a family of hockey enthusiasts: a grandfather, who was general manager of the Montreal Junior Canadiens, and her hockey-playing older brothers. As a child, the rink in her family’s backyard helped set her path to excel at Canada’s National sport. Upon moving to Mississauga, Ontario she attended St...
Martin’s secondary school and was named athlete of the year. Cheryl went on to post-secondary education and excelled as a student athlete at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she not only earned an honours degree in Kinesiology but was also named female athlete of the year in 2007. Cheryl has represented Canada for several years on the international stage but her greatest on-ice achievement came in 2002 and 2006 as a member of Canada’s Olympic gold medal women’s hockey team.
